Overview

Sets the global world spawn point. New players and players without a personal spawn point will respawn here. In vanilla Minecraft Java Edition it is one of the world commands and has been available since version 1.0.

It is invoked as /setworldspawn [] [] and accepts 2 optional arguments ([pos] and [angle]).

The world spawn also determines the center of the spawn chunks (the always-loaded area). Changing the world spawn moves the spawn chunks.

The world spawn also anchors the spawn chunks (the always-loaded area around 0,0 by default), so moving it relocates that loaded region.

Syntax & Arguments

/setworldspawn [<pos>] [<angle>]

The full syntax is /setworldspawn [] []. Angle brackets < > mark required arguments and square brackets [ ] mark optional ones; a vertical bar | between words means you pick exactly one of those literals. Every argument is optional, so the bare command is valid on its own. The arguments [pos] and [angle] may be omitted, in which case the documented default applies.

pos
Optional, of type a block_pos. The coordinates for the world spawn. Defaults to the executor's position.
angle
Optional, of type an angle. The angle players will face when spawning at the world spawn.

Parameters

NameTypeRequiredDescription
posblock_posOptionalThe coordinates for the world spawn. Defaults to the executor's position.

Examples

The 3 examples below are ready to copy and adapt. For instance, /setworldspawn 0 64 0 sets the world spawn to coordinates 0, 64, 0. Each example varies the arguments to show a different real use of /setworldspawn; read the note under every snippet to see exactly what changes.

/setworldspawn 0 64 0

Sets the world spawn to coordinates 0, 64, 0.

/setworldspawn ~ ~ ~ 180

Sets the world spawn to your position, facing south on spawn.

/setworldspawn

Sets the world spawn to your current location.

Permission Level & Requirements

/setworldspawn sits at permission Level 2 - Game Master / Cheats, which means it needs permission level 2, the level cheats grant to single-player worlds and that operators hold by default.

In a single-player world you must have "Allow Cheats" turned on (or open the world to LAN with cheats) before it will run; on a multiplayer server the player needs to be an operator at the matching level.

This reference describes the Java Edition 1.21 form of the command; Bedrock Edition may use slightly different argument formats.

Common Mistakes

Notes

The world spawn also determines the center of the spawn chunks (the always-loaded area). Changing the world spawn moves the spawn chunks.
