/spawnpoint
Sets the spawn point for one or more players. When a player dies, they respawn at their spawn point.
Overview
Sets the spawn point for one or more players. When a player dies, they respawn at their spawn point. In vanilla Minecraft Java Edition it is one of the player commands and has been available since version 1.0.
It is invoked as /spawnpoint [ and accepts 3 optional arguments ([targets], [pos], and [angle]).
Each player has an individual spawn point. If the spawn point block becomes obstructed, the player respawns at the world spawn instead.
Each player carries an individual spawn point; if its block is obstructed at respawn the player falls back to the world spawn set by /setworldspawn.
Syntax & Arguments
/spawnpoint [<targets>] [<pos>] [<angle>]The full syntax is /spawnpoint [. Angle brackets < > mark required arguments and square brackets [ ] mark optional ones; a vertical bar | between words means you pick exactly one of those literals. Every argument is optional, so the bare command is valid on its own. The arguments [targets], [pos], and [angle] may be omitted, in which case the documented default applies.
- targets
- Optional, of type an entity. The player(s) whose spawn point to set. Defaults to self.
- pos
- Optional, of type a block_pos. The coordinates for the spawn point. Defaults to the executor's position.
- angle
- Optional, of type an angle. The angle the player faces on respawn.
Parameters
| Name | Type | Required | Description |

Examples
The 3 examples below are ready to copy and adapt. For instance, /spawnpoint @s sets your spawn point to your current location. Each example varies the arguments to show a different real use of /spawnpoint; read the note under every snippet to see exactly what changes.
/spawnpoint @sSets your spawn point to your current location.
/spawnpoint @a 0 64 0Sets all players' spawn points to coordinates 0, 64, 0.
/spawnpoint @p ~ ~ ~ 90Sets the nearest player's spawn point to their current location, facing east on respawn.
Permission Level & Requirements
/spawnpoint sits at permission Level 2 - Game Master / Cheats, which means it needs permission level 2, the level cheats grant to single-player worlds and that operators hold by default.
In a single-player world you must have "Allow Cheats" turned on (or open the world to LAN with cheats) before it will run; on a multiplayer server the player needs to be an operator at the matching level.
This reference describes the Java Edition 1.21 form of the command; Bedrock Edition may use slightly different argument formats.
Common Mistakes
- Setting a spawn point inside a solid block, the player may suffocate or be displaced on respawn.
- Confusing /spawnpoint (per-player) with /setworldspawn (global default).
Notes
Each player has an individual spawn point. If the spawn point block becomes obstructed, the player respawns at the world spawn instead.
